By creating a gearless design, Welch Allyn has developed with the DuraShock™ a pressure gauge with few moving parts. shock resistant and lighter than traditional pressure gauges. Until now, a blood pressure monitor that fell to the ground required calibration or replacement. However, the DuraShock™ blood pressure monitor can be dropped from a height of up to 76 cm onto a hard surface while remaining calibrated. It is the only pressure gauge capable of meeting AAMI shock test requirements. (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation).
In the traditional design of an aneroid blood pressure monitor, a delicate set of gears and springs convert and amplify the vertical movement of the pinion into rotary motion to turn the needle. The DuraShock™ design says goodbye to gears and uses a simple helical spring to directly convert the vertical movement of the pinion to needle rotation without relying on the multi-phase gear system.
